This video is part of a three-part series of lessons appropriate for anyone with back issue or any issue preventing large, complicated movements. None of the series have any flexion exercises for the spine, making it safe for most types of back conditions.
The lessons are a blend of yoga, Pilates, and myofascial release. Each series contains core stability and strength work, hip, hamstring and shoulder openers, and centering exercises.
This lesson uses a foam roller. You can use any type of roller you prefer; I use a medium density one here. We use the roller on the quadriceps, IT bands, and for shoulder releases. We also do a side lying exercise designed to engage the tiny multifidus muscles along your spine.
Also consider downloading my free video on neutral alignment and lumbar stabilization. In it I describe in detail how to engage the abdominals and pelvic floor correctly and how to breathe well for maintaining stability.
