This video is part of a three-part series of lessons appropriate for anyone with a back issue or any issue preventing large, complicated movement. There are no flexion exercises for the spine, making it safe for most types of back conditions.
The lessons are a blend of yoga, Pilates, and myofascial release. Each series contains core stability and strength work, hip, hamstring and shoulder openers, and centering exercises.
This lesson begins with myofascial release using a tennis ball or similar therapy ball for the gluteal/hip muscles. There are two standing stretches, including an active Tai Chi twist. I have included some one-sided work to build balance between the two sides of the body.
Also consider downloading my free video on neutral alignment and lumbar stabilization. This video lesson describes in detail how to engage the abdominals and pelvic floor correctly and how to breathe well for maintaining stability. You will find a separate download link for this free video.
